Prae spent twelve years at a motor-insurance company, driving across Bangkok and the provinces around it — out to customers, out to workshops, out to sort accident paperwork. Some days she was in the car for hours.
What she kept looking for was somewhere she could pull in off the road: a clean restroom, coffee that tasted the same every time, no shopping mall to walk into, no long queue, no awkwardness about arriving alone, and fifteen minutes before carrying on. That place was hard to find.
In 2022 she left, and used her savings to rent an empty unit on this road — it had been a phone-accessories shop. It is not big, and there are only a few parking spaces. But the sign is visible from both directions and you can turn in safely.
I did not want a café people sit in all day. I wanted a shop people are willing to stop at for fifteen minutes.

Easy to stop, easy to leave
Three spaces out front, one of them a five-minute pickup bay. Coming the other way, the U-turn is 400 m ahead at the school.

A short menu, because one person makes everything. If a drink comes out well when it is quiet and badly when it is busy, it does not belong here.

A clean place to sit
Thirty square metres, twelve seats, and a restroom cleaned four times a day. Ten minutes is still worth a clean place to sit.

You do not have to stay long to justify the coffee, and nobody will move you on at twenty minutes.

Ready for the road
Lids clipped down, sleeves on hot drinks, iced cups that do not sweat into your hand, and cups that fit a car holder. Never filled to the brim — a beautifully full cup that spills at the first corner is not good takeaway coffee.

How small the room actually is
One room, thirty square metres. Two two-seat sofas, a three-seat bench, two window tables and a single seat facing the glass — twelve seats in total. It was not built for groups, and there is no corner of it that photographs larger than it is.

A regular
The 08:10 Americano
Most weekday mornings a silver Toyota Vios stops out front at about ten past eight. Sakda is 52 and sells medical equipment, driving between hospitals and clinics all day.
On his first visit he ordered an iced Americano with no sugar, tasted it, and asked whether it could be made weaker — *I drink a lot of these in a day.* Prae did not explain that the recipe is the recipe. She cut the shot back and made it again.
One morning the car stopped and nobody came in. She went out and saw him on a call in the driver’s seat, and it did not look like a good one. She did not knock on the window. She made the usual and left it on the counter.
Ten minutes later he came in and said a large order had just been cancelled. She did not console him and did not ask anything else. She said: *I made it weak today. You’ll probably drink it slowly.*
These regulars are illustrative and fictional, like everything else here.
Where to put the car
- Coming from town, the shop is on your left just after the school. Slow down early — the entrance is a 6 m gap in the kerb, right after the pharmacy.
- Coming from the estates you cannot cross the median. U-turn 400 m ahead, at the school, then come back — it will be on your left.
- If they are full, use Soi Nong Phai 3 behind the shop — a 40 m walk back, and there is always room.
- Never park across the pharmacy's entrance next door. It is their door, not ours.
